Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among U.S. women, striking
more than 178,000 women a year (only skin cancer is more prevalent).
Early detection can help save lives!
You can detect breast cancer with a mammogram even before it can be felt.
The George Washington University Hospital's Center for Breast Care Services
offers advanced technologies to detect cancer in its early stages and to help
formulate a plan of treatment in newly diagnosed patients. We offer:
- Traditional mammography with computer-aided detection (CAD)
technology
- Digital mammography, also with CAD technology, useful for evaluating
dense breast tissue (usually found in women under age 50)
- Breast ultrasound
- Breast MRI
- Dilon 6800 Gamma Camera imaging device
Start at age 40
- Women should have a baseline mammogram
by age 40, followed by regular mammograms
every one to two years for women ages 40 to
49 (depending on personal health history).
Age 50 or older?
You should have a mammogram every year.
